About this Solution:
The 4G Development Kit for IoT/M2M Applications is based on Telit Wireless Solutions LE910 family of modules; the next generation of LTE modules. LE910 is essentially two high-speed cellular modules in one. An LTE 3GPP Release 9 module delivering data rates of 100Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink and an HSPA+ module delivering up to 42Mbps downlink and 5.76Mbps uplink rates. Telit LE910 modules automatically falls back to HSPA+ if it is unable to register onto an LTE network. It also includes Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology, an essential feature to meet demands for data rate and link reliability in modern wireless communication systems including LTE.
The 4G Development Kit for IoT/M2M Applications includes:

Using this Component:
Step 1 – Assemble the hardware
- Plug the LE910 interface board into the EVK2 motherboard, it may be necessary to bend the CHARGER ON jumper out of the way
- Connect the two FPTR35211 cellular antennas to the SO103 and SO105 connectors at the edge of the interface board, indicated by the red arrows in the figure below.
- If GPS functionality is needed, connect the FGPX35246 GPS/GLONASS antenna to the SO102 connector on the interface board, indicated by the blue arrow in the figure below.
- Connect the power supply to the EVK2 motherboard
Step 2 – Choose a communication method
- The EVK2 can be configured for either RS232 Serial (Default) or USB communication
- For RS232 Serial communication proceed to Step 3
- For USB communication proceed to Step 4
Step 3 – RS232 communication
- The EVK2 is configured for RS232 Serial communication by default and no other settings should be necessary.
- Some computers may not have a serial port, in which case a USB to serial converter can be used.
- Connect the serial cable to the top RS232 port on the EVK2 (The bottom port is used for Trace debugging info by default).
- Proceed to step 5.
Step 4 – USB communication
- There are two different USB ports available that serve different functions
- The USB Type B connector (blue arrow in Figure 2 below) on the EVK2 board connects to the UART serial port on the Telit module. This port therefore serves as a USB to serial converter and should not be used if true USB speed is desired. To use this port proceed to
- The Mini USB port (red arrow in Figure 2 below) on the interface board connects to the USB interface on the HE910 module. To use this port proceed to Step 4b.
Step 4a - USB Type B connector
- The EVK board has to be configured for USB by moving the 10 jumpers to connect PL302&PL301. This is the row of jumpers on the EVK2 board that is just behind the RS232 Dsub connector. The text on the PCB also indicates the correct position for USB.
- Install the Telit USB driver for your operating system by following the directions in the Telit EVK2 Drivers Installation Guide which can be found on the kit CD or downloaded from the Telit website.
Step 4b - Mini USB port
- For Windows 2000, Xp, Vista, 7 and 8 install the following driver provided on the CD: Telit_USB_Driver_Win_Desktop_UF_00_00.zip. The Doc folder contains a pdf with instructions on installing the driver.
- For Linux, read the Telit_UC_CC_DE_CE_LE920_HE920_Linux_Driver_UserGuide_r5.pdf document for instructions on configuring Linux USB to work with the module.
Step 5 – Insert SIM card
- The SIM card can be inserted into either the holder on the EVK2 or the holder on the interface board.
- Make sure that you have a working SIM card with an associated data plan.
- You may need to contact your carrier or wireless service provider to make sure your SIM card is activated.
Step 6 – Power on
- Hold down the ON button on the Interface board for 1 second and then release. The LEDs on the board may NOT come on, don’t worry. This is because the STAT LED output on the LE910 needs to be configured for it to work.
Step 7 – Test Communication
Note: The current version of the ClearLinkDemo application which launches when you insert the CD does NOT support the LE910 module. As soon as this application is updated to include the LE910 it will be added to the kit CD.
- A terminal program is needed to communicate with the module.
- Tera Term and Putty are free terminal programs that can be downloaded.
- Ensure that the terminal program is set up for 115200 baud rate with 8 data bits, no parity bits, 1 stop bit and no flow control.
- As explained above you can use either RS232 or USB to communicate with the Terminal program. Check Device Manager to make sure which virtual COM ports to use.
- Open the Terminal program on the correct COM port.
- Type AT+GMR in the terminal window and press enter
- The module should respond with the software version and OK
