HARDWARE.co is a global community and accelerator for entrepreneurs, industry professionals and makers dedicated to the creation of innovative hardware products and companies. HARDWARE.co is made up of several interconnected components to serve, maintain and grow our community. The HARDWARE.co Accelerator, Lab, Meetups and Online Platform form a multichannel resource to give members the opportunity to create leading products and companies. We support every stage of hardware development through our on and off-line community – from ideas to investments and beyond.

HISTORY

Hardware Berlin began as a small meetup in 2013, as place to get advice, answer questions and tell stories of success or failure about hardware. Quickly however, the group grew too large for the informal restaurant meetups and pitch events and realized the flourishing interest in hardware technology products in Berlin and internationally. As the group grew and new members flooded in, the organizers partnered with the founders of betahaus and hy! to establish HARDWARE.co. HARDWARE.co ran its first accelerator programs in 2013 and 2014 and has since established itself as the go-to place for hardware in Berlin. In 2014, HARDWARE.co/Munich launched and has become a cornerstone of the hardware tech scene in southern Germany. Now with two major hubs, an established accelerator program and global community of enthusiasts, the HARDWARE.co community is primed to build the future of hardware.

The accelerator program is an intensive 14-day program. Because of the short timeframe, we make sure to pack as much networking, expertise and workshopping into the two weeks as possible. During the program, selected startups can expect one-on-one interaction with more than 40 mentors and professionals including investors, lawyers, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, engineers, developers, product managers and many more. Additionally, HARDWARE.co keeps in close contact with our alumni startups to ensure they can leverage our extensive on and off-line community once they complete the program.

  1. APPLY

The application process for the HARDWARE.co accelerator is a two-part process. The first is an online form and required video and optional PDF supplements. The most promising startups will be asked to complete an interview with the HARDWARE.co organizational team to be accepted into the program. For accepted startups the program is completely free.

HARDWARE.co looks for early stage startups that show great potential either in their idea, team, prototype or business plan. Hundreds of applications pour in from Europe and internationally. The best are selected to enter the program. A great application will not only prove that the startup has a great idea or prototype but also the team and drive to make it happen. We accept teams that are anywhere in their early phase, from promising idea and roadmap to first round of funding.

  2. SELECT

The HARDWARE.co organizational team runs the accelerator selection process with input from mentors and advisors. We make sure to choose teams we know we can accelerate – and accelerate quickly. It is important for us to choose not only amazing products and teams but also for those individuals to add to the quality of our overall community. Because we neither take equity nor provide money to the teams, we are completely neutral in the selection process and choose only on merit of the ideas and products.

  3. ACCELERATE

  4. LAUNCH

The accelerator program culminates in a public demo day for each of the participating teams. Startup teams pitch their ideas to a group of investors and industry professionals and often leave with their first round of funding. For all accelerator teams, the connections and relationships built during the program continue on, often forming the basis for the next steps of their company. Because HARDWARE.co is not only an accelerator but also a community, we stay in touch with our alumni team to provide opportunities and resources as they grow.
