Cell Form Factor
ATL supplies lithium ion/polymer cells in different form factors. The following information assists you in differentiating different types of form-factors and enables you to select the right choice for your needs.
Prismatic Cells – generally large capacity (>20 Ah) sturdy cells designed at electric vehicle or electricity energy storage applications. It features lithium iron phosphate chemistry for exceptional cycle life and calendar life. It is available in designs optimized for either high energy density or high power density.
Cylindrical Cells – industrial standard 18650 cell form factor which is widely used in ordinary laptop PC or cordless power tools applications. ATL offers industry leading specification and performance, with optional ATL unique features fast charge capability or ultra-long cycle life. It is available in designs optimized for either high energy density or high power density.
Polymer Cells – the latest trend in lithium battery used in consumer electronic products and IT gadgets. It is flexible in foot print and capacity, customers can participate to design the unique battery most fitting its own application. Furthermore, it is light way and low profile, perfect for trendy thin design of laptop or tablet PCs. Optional ATL unique features like fast charge capability or ultra-long cycle life are also available.
ATL recommends polymer cells for virtually all consumer electronics applications or IT gadgets. It is available in any capacity and size customer desires. Customer is free to request unique capacity and size fitting it’s requirement most, or ATL may suggest close-fit models which has already be tooled up. As long as ATL has inventory in stock, usually quick prototype samples can be shipped out in days. The battery is available in either bare cells or battery packs completed with protection circuit module (“PCM”) with optional choice of safety devices like PTC, NTC, TCO, fuses or digital gas gauge IC.
ATL recommends prismatic cells for electric vehicle applications. ATL offers standard electrical vehicles battery cells with capacity steps like 20/40/60/80Ah or specific customized design based on unique requirement of high volume usage customers. The electrical vehicle battery cells are generally divided into high power density and high energy density types catering for different needs for HEV/PHEV and full EVs. This type of battery cells are specially designed for high reliability and longevity as far as durability for vehicle applications. These battery products are available in various levels of integration, ranging from single discrete cells, to modules formed by aggregation of cells, to complete battery packs finished with all sensors and switches, software, communication interfaces and battery management system. Either customers purchase single discrete cells or complete battery pack system or subsystems, ATL provides design and technical supports to assist customers in the system integration process.
Electrical energy storage by lithium ion battery technology is emerging fast. Similar energy storage applications employing different batteries like lead-acid batteries and sodium sulfur batteries have been adapted by the industry, the introduction of lithium ion battery is adding new components to the equation. The application ranges from small portable personal energy storage (as auxiliary backup power for mobile phones), to medium size family energy storage to buffer the green energy generated by wind turbine or solar panel, to large enterprise or utility level energy storage. Chemical and Materials
Lithium ion batteries is a big family populated with a variety of similar but different chemistry systems. Very much the characteristics and functionalities of the lithium ion battery is closely related to the chemistry system built-in, as well as the advancement of battery performance is driven by the advance in chemistry systems. LFP Cathode Material
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode earns its reputation by its safety and longevity in cycle life. ATL is ready to ship LFP batteries with industry leading safety and reliability. While the basic LFP cathode technology is mature for mass production deployment, ATL continues to develop next generation cathode material evolving from the LFP technology
Metal Oxide Cathode Material
Conventional cathode materials like lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganese oxide, lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxides, etc. are generally categorized as Metal Oxide Cathode Materials. ATL is currently shipping industry leading batteries utilizing such conventional cathode. ATL envisions the next generation of metal oxide cathode continues to drives improvement in battery performance on energy density, power density and other metrics. ATL invests heavily on the research and development and scaling up of supply chain to launch these next generation materials.
Silicon Anode Material
Silicon material has the required property to store lithium ion in a much higher multiples than conventional graphite which has been the incumbent technology for lithium ion battery anode for a long time. It holds the promise to be a viable replacement technology for current graphite. On the other hand, the problems associated with using silicon materials into battery is a well know headache in the industry. ATL invests heavily on the research and development and scaling up of supply chain to launch this new material to the market.
Lithium Titanate Anode Material
When being used as anode, the unique crystal structure of lithium titanate material gives the exceptional superior performances over graphite like high power charge and discharge, extremely low temperature operations. It is an ideal technology for lithium ion battery applications at harsh cold environment requiring high power charge and discharge. ATL is developing batteries utilizing lithium titanate as anode to cater for customers with such special needs.
