As a design engineer within a small team, I was tasked with the leading interior production, interactive elements and electrical system. I project managed the engineering of the interior and, along with my team, transformed the styling surfaces into mould for fibre-glass panels complete with mounting points and structural elements.

This experimental project questions the role of the object in an increasingly digital world. 3d gesture capturing technology projects a world in which spaces are bare and users perform actions to trigger events in empty space. But it is true that we constantly take cues from our environment to judge how to best interact with systems, so I strongly believe that the physical interfaces retain an invaluable role in future of technology.

This project aimed to develop an alternative design process for gesturally controlled objects resulting in a new design language capable of intuitive interpretation by the user.
The radio as an object became the platform on which form, gesture and function were combined to yield different test forms.

What makes a radio be perceived as a radio? Is it the antenna or is it the tuning knob? To continue this investigation, the technology need not be embedded in the object as the interface is all I'm concerned with. The varied interactive test forms were placed in front of users who were given no clue as to how to interact with the objects.
